The first note is written as F in the bass clef.  The same pitch could also be written as E#, G double flat, D triple #... etc but the obvious and least perverse choice is E#.


They will use this question to test your knowledge that there are longer notes then semi-breves (whole notes).  The “breve” is worth two semi-breves (so now you know why the “semi” is used). It’s written like a semi-breve but with two vertical lines each side of the note-head.
